Great Questions to Ask When Evaluating Your Career

Edit page

I was re-reading Mark McCormark’s book, Staying Street Smart in the Internet Age, and I came across this great list of hypothetical questions to evaluate your career:

  1. If you could have anybody’s job at your company, which one would you take?
  2. If you could work for anyone in your organization, who would it be?
  3. If you could eliminate the most time-consuming part of your job, would you miss it?
  4. If you could erase your biggest flaw, would anyone notice?
  5. If you lost your biggest personal asset in business, would anyone care?
  6. If the company published a depth chart for your department, what line would you be?
  7. If you could assemble a board of directors that existed only to guide and advise you, who would be on it?
  8. If you were a publicly traded company, what price would you be quoting for your stock?
  9. If you were offered your job today, would you still take it?
